3-1-17 Letter from Kristie Rue
I realize that this is a fairly frantic time in most studios. Festivals are here, auditions are looming, COA repertoire was just submitted. You are feeling a little stressed?? Just breathe! "It's Gonna Be Okay" (Piano Guys).
I hope excitement is building in your studios for a fun, not-to-be-missed event on May 19-20. Celebrated composer, Timothy Brown is coming to town!
I have just been on youtube exploring once again "The Music of Timothy Brown". Right now I am enjoying a Romantic Suite for Solo Piano performed by Timothy Brown. So glad I found this as one of my students is performing a Nocturne included in this suite. Really lovely.
I know many of you teach TB's Soliloquy. But have you seen the world premiere of Soliloquy? It is beautifully performed and inspirationally choreographed for male and female ballerina - got to love youtube.
I have had the opportunity to communicate with Timothy several times as we have made plans for his visit.
Several weeks ago he told me that he wanted to compose a piece that would be dedicated to our very own Treasure Valley students. He asked me for ideas on level, style and even subject matter. I replied. Yesterday he sent word that the suggestions were excellent and that the piece would soon be completed. He will be sending it to me soon in hopes that a Treasure Valley student will debut this piece at our upcoming Timothy Brown event! Yesterday, I told a couple of my teenage students of this communication and they found it all to be "very cool"!
Timothy will be giving a presentation to teachers at 10:30 Saturday morning (May 20th) at Dunkley Music. He is eager to meet you. We will follow this with a luncheon and then I am hoping to give him a brief tour of our area.
Recitals will be held Friday, May 19th and Saturday, May 20th. There will be a 6:00 pm recital each day. A second recital one or both days will be added depending upon the number of students participating. Timothy plans to address each student before and after they perform. I really feel this is such a great opportunity for our students.
I know from experience that my students are excited about things that I am excited about. I have to be the one to generate the enthusiasm. I can very honestly say that my enthusiasm for this event has grown over the past few weeks as I have gotten to know Timothy better. I feel that this will have a very positive impact on our Treasure Valley students. Get on board everyone. I promise this is a journey you want to take with your students.
Registration forms will soon be e-mailed. Registration will be due Monday, March 20th. Students will be assigned to a recital based on the typical balancing act of having as many levels as possible represented in each recital. Of course, we will also make certain that there are a minimum number of repetitions of any given piece per recital.
Please contact Kristie Rue, Monica Hughes or Irina Albig with questions or comments.
Spring ahead, everyone!!!

Timothy Brown Comes to Town, May 19-20.
My students are really enjoying our exploration of compositions by Timothy Brown. There is a wide variety of styles. From my youngest student to my oldest, there is truly something for everyone. Dunkley Music is stocking up. Certainly it is time to begin making your selections. There are no "lists" - just look through his music and select a performance piece that suits each student.
Teachers, here is a great opportunity for our students to have fun together enjoying music of a contemporary composer - one they can actually see and speak with. In addition to stellar performances, we are hoping to have illustrations, stories, poems created by our students which we will display. There will be simple party/gift bags for all students who participate. Of course, refreshments will be served. Performances will be held at the Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy. We would love your input!!

7-28-16 Letter from TVMTA President
Friends and Colleagues,
I love summer. I love a more leisurely teaching schedule. i love more time spent with family - summer adventures. I love more time for personal practice. Nonetheless, I look forward to fall. I look forward to seeing EVERY student EVERY week! I look forward to their steady progress (best case scenario). AND I look forward to joining together once again with my colleagues in the Treasure Valley Music Teachers’ Association! My personal theme for our association this year is - “The More We Get Together, The Happier We’ll Be!"
This year we have a tremendous opportunity to begin our fall semester by attending the Idaho Music Teachers’ Association State Conference at Boise State University! Really, I can’t think of a better way to kick off the fall semester.
From our state board -
"Our conference keynote speaker is Dr. Jody Graves, a nationally-renowned artist, teacher and clinician who is well known for her inspiring, refreshing, and entertaining presentations and performances. Ms Graves is recognized for her creative ability to engage the audience during her concerts with anecdotes, historical perspectives and humor, and often uses multi-media to highlight the musical works. The press has referred to her as “Victoria Borge”.
You are invited to join us Friday September 16 - Saturday September 17, 2016 for a stimulating and invigorating weekend of professional development."
I strongly encourage each member of our chapter to “get together" to support this great event in our community. Please add these dates to your schedule of events now! Register online at idahomta.org.
Additionally, you are invited to submit an application (s) for a student or students from your studio to participate in the master class. The application can be found online at idahomta.org.
There will also be an exciting Honors Recital. Each chapter is allotted just 15 performance minutes. If you have a student that you strongly feel qualifies to participate in this recital, you are invited to contact me - kristierue@msn.com. Please include the student’s name, selected performance piece and number of performance minutes. Registration for this recital is completed by the chapter president.
In October you are invited to attend our chapter's “Fall Social”. October 22nd is the best date available to us for this gathering. Please add this date to your calendars and look forward to a fun time together.
Your studio is invited to participate in our annual Sonatina Festival on Saturday, November 5 at BSU. Janet Folster is this year’s festival chairman. As she arranges for an adequate number of adjudicators for this important event, she would like an good idea of the number of participants this year. Would you take just a minute to count up your anticipated number of participants and send this information to jbfolster@gmail.com or kristierue@msn.com. Our sonatina committee could use bolstering. If you would be willing to serve on the sonatina committee, please contact Janet or Kristie asap.
You are invited to an exciting year of joining together as friends and colleagues - “The more we get together, the happier we’ll be!”
