TVMTA Teachers,
I just wanted to thank everyone for their hard work. Today went spectacularly. We could not hold events like this without your help. I appreciate you all following through on your assignments for the day and helping it run smoothly.
We will be having makeup day next Saturday April 20th. Remember that in order to complete their tests next week, your students will need to have the $20 fee paid. They will not be allowed to play for the judge or take the test if that fee does not get paid. Please note the makeup day will be held at the Idaho Music Academy, 1505 Tyrell Ln.
Also, if you have any students on Path B we need you to make sure and pay the $20 before the 27th so their scores can be entered.
If you did not get trophies and tests picked up, they will be at the Idaho Music Academy. Please pick these up promptly.
Thanks again for helping to make this a terrific day!

Teachers,
The student schedules have now been finalized.
Don’t forget to finish entering your volunteers by Saturday night. We are trying to get assignments made before spring break. Remember that you will need a half day volunteer for every 5 students. For example if you have 6 students registered you will need 2 half day volunteers. Also, you are required to be one of those volunteers.
Thank you so much!
Emily Hanks
3-12-19
Teachers,
Just a reminder that we need you to let us know of any changes your students may need in their schedules by Wednesday(3/13/19). This includes changing to makeup day or path B (each of which requires an additional $20 fee). Please help us in finalizing the schedule ASAP.
Thanks,
Emily Hanks
3-8-19
Teachers,
Certificate of Achievement time is quickly approaching. We want to make sure that you are aware that the deadline for entering volunteer information is March 16. Please get this done as soon as possible so that we can get the assignments out before spring break.
In the meantime, here is a check list of things you need to do and deadlines you need to be aware of:
1. Double-check with all of your students and parents on performance times and repertoire. Make sure you have entered the correct songs, have original copies of those songs and most importantly, make sure that they can attend the time scheduled with the judge. Please log on and make sure everything is entered correctly. http://www.treasurevalleymtaregistration.org
2. DO THIS BY WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13. If your student cannot make it on the event day, April 13, other arrangements need to be made. There is limited availability for makeup day the following week, however when that is full, you can still do Path B. Both of these options require a $20 additional fee on top of any judges fees for Path B- see guidelines http://www.treasurevalleymta.org/2019-coa-guidelines--requirements.html We will send out a reminder on Wednesday, March 13 but this is the final day to make these changes. (Emergencies will be handled on a case by case basis.)
3. ENTER VOLUNTEERS BY SATURDAY, MARCH 16. This gives us a week to make assignments and then you will have that information to give families before spring break.
4. APRIL 13 - CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT DAY
5. APRIL 20 - MAKE-UP DAY
6. APRIL 27 - PATH B COMPLETED (There are no exceptions to this! The theory tests for Path B will not be available until after April 13, but you could schedule to complete this path anytime after that.)
7. If you have a student playing on Make up Day....you will need to pay the additional $20 fee before that student will be allowed to play. Follow the instructions below....
*Log into your Paypal account @ www.paypal.com
*Click "Send" on the menu at the top
*Click "Send Money"
*Use the email address.... treasurevalleymta@gmail.com
*Put in the amount of money you need to pay ($20/per student)
*In the "Note" section enter the name of each student that you are paying for.
*Click "Continue"
*Select where the payment is coming from
*Click continue
*Verify the information and click "Send"
8. If you have a student participating in Path B....follow the directions above and pay the additional $20 fee. Find a judge for your student. Be sure that they know they will need a computer with internet access to judge because all the judging will be done through the online system. Email the name of the judge AND the date they will playing for the judge to Andrea Hansen ahpianostudio@cableone.net as soon as possible, so she can activate the judge in the system and send further instructions to you as needed.
9. If for some reason, your student wakes up sick on April 13 and is unable to attend Certificate of Achievement that day, please let us know that morning or as soon as you find out, so that we can help you schedule either the following week, if it’s not full, or Path B. Keep in mind that the additional $20 will still apply and makeup day could be full by that time leaving only Path B. If we are not contacted, we will assume they are not participating and cancel the student in the system. You can email ahpianostudio@cableone.net.
Good luck to everyone in the final preparations of your students. Thank you for all you do. Events like this, would not be possible without the work that you all put in.
Thank you,
Emily Hanks

Teachers,
We have the student schedules for Certificate of Achievement ready. Please log into your teacher account to find the list of your student schedules. For the next week, we are willing to make adjustments in the schedule as needed and if possible. Keep in mind that switching people is not always easy unless they happen to be the same level. So please check with your students this week and make sure the time is acceptable and if there are problems that arise, we will do our best to try to accommodate them. There also is some limited availability on makeup day, with valid reason. A student needing another week to finish preparing is not a valid reason. Path B is always an option as well.
We also, now have the site open to enter volunteers. Remember that you will need a half day volunteer for every five students. If you have six, you will need to provide two volunteers. You as a teacher, need to be one of those volunteers. We cannot make this event work without the teachers. Please get your volunteers entered as soon as you can. The deadline is March 16, 2019. Here is a link to the volunteer descriptions. http://www.treasurevalleymta.org/2019-volunteer-job-descriptions.html. Our goal is to have everything, including necessary changes, squared away before Spring Break.
As a final note, if you have a student who needs to cancel, please enter this in the system. That way we can see and make the necessary adjustments to the judges’ schedule.
We are looking forward to a wonderful event! Thank you all for your participation and best of luck with final preparations of your students.
Thank you,
Emily Hanks

TVMTA Teachers,
As a reminder....there is an additional $20 fee per student to use Make up Day. To use Path B there is an additional $20 fee per student PLUS the student will need to pay the judge individually for the time needed in their level (prices listed below). This information has been emailed out and posted to the website. Here is a copy of the information. Be sure your students understand this. If you have questions please ask.
MAKE UP DAYThe decision was made to keep Make Up Day at only ½ day. Those spot will be filled on a first-come first-serve basis. All other students that cannot participate on the original day will need to schedule a Path B.
Starting with COA 2019 there will be an additional $20 fee charged to any student who chooses to use Make Up Day and Path B. This fee will be payable to TVMTA via Paypal before the student’s evaluation form will be available for the judge.
Those students who choose Path B are also responsible for the additional judges fee to compensate that judge for their time. This is to be paid directly to the judge the day of their Path B evaluation. Those fees were set based upon the time needed per level to judge. Those fees are as follows….
Young Beginner-Level 2 = $6.00 (12 minutes)
Level 3-Level 5 = $10 (20 minutes)
Level 6-Level 7 = $15 (30 minutes)
Level 8-Level 9 = $17.50 (35 minutes)
Advanced = $20 (40 minutes)
Second item: We are already starting to receive Make up Day requests. We have 1 half day judge's schedule almost full and need to know if we are going to need an additional half day judge. Please notify us via email before the end of the day on February 1, 2019 (Friday) to let us know if you have a student that needs to perform on Make up Day. If there is a need by Friday, February 1, 2019 we will plan on a second half day judge otherwise once the Make Up Day Schedule is full everyone else will be required to do Path B.
Thank you!

TVMTA Teachers,
We are looking forward to the upcoming 2019 Certificate of Achievement on April 13, 2019. There are MANY dates and important information that you need to be aware of. Take the time to read through all the information and review the website links.
If you have further questions please contact 2019 Certificate of Achievement Chair, Emily Hanks at emilyhankspiano@gmail.com or (208) 850-1952.
The NEW Certificate of Achievement Guidelines & Requirements are listed here... http://www.treasurevalleymta.org/2019-coa-guidelines--requirements.html Review ALL information on this page. There are several changes from previous years. These are the guidelines we will be following for 2019 Certificate of Achievement.
Important Dates & Deadlines:
Participation Fees:
Certificate of Achievement will be exclusively online registration, with payments through Paypal. Registration will be open from January 7-19, 2019. There will be no late registrations accepted.
PLEASE NOTE: There is an additional charge $20 charge if your student chooses to use Make Up Day or Path B. (Read complete information on the website http://www.treasurevalleymta.org/2019-coa-guidelines--requirements.html).
Time Periods & Composer List: (UPDATE)
We have decided this year to clarify our time periods for Certificate of Achievement in order to make it easier for the teacher checking the repertoire to find errors and to help eliminate confusion that may arise. We have found what we consider to be a comprehensive timeline. https://www.mfiles.co.uk/composer-timelines-classical-periods.htm The only problem with it is that it includes 1910-present as modern and we do believe there should be a 5th time period as we have used in the last few years. For this reason, we are drawing a line of reference for the 5th time period. It will be 1980-present.
We do understand that certain composers will possibly fall into two time periods and we ask that when there is a question, you do your research to determine when the piece was composed. We also know that certain pieces may be more ambiguous in their classification. Again, please note when the piece was written as it pertains to the following schedule. Music tends to contain elements of the time period(s) that it follows along with the current era. Use this opportunity to teach your students how the different time periods may have affected their particular piece(s).
We ask that you make your selections based on the numbers below. We will ask our repertoire auditor to adhere strictly to the following timelines in order to keep the event more structured.
If you do have a dispute, please take it up with Emily Hanks (emilyhankspiano@gmail.com) and she will present it to the rest of the Certificate of Achievement Board for a vote.
Thank you,
Emily Hanks

Second item: We are already starting to receive Make up Day requests. We have 1 half day judge's schedule almost full and need to know if we are going to need an additional half day judge. Please notify us via email before the end of the day on February 1, 2019 (Friday) to let us know if you have a student that needs to perform on Make up Day. If there is a need by Friday, February 1, 2019 we will plan on a second half day judge otherwise once the Make Up Day Schedule is full everyone else will be required to do Path B.
Thank you!

- Baroque 1600-1750
- Classical 1750-1820
- Romantic 1820-1910
- Modern 1910-1980
- 5th Period 1980-Present
Thank you,

TVMTA Members,
Thank you to those in attendance at the COA Follow Up Meeting. We appreciate the input via email from some of you who could not attend.
PROGRAM CHOICE:
The decision was made to move completely over to the “Certificate of Achievement” (Musicians West-Idaho) program for the 2019 COA
MAKE UP DAY:
The decision was made to keep Make Up Day at only ½ day. Those spot will be filled on a first-come first-serve basis. All other students that cannot participate on the original day will need to schedule a Path B. Starting with COA 2019 there will be an additional $20 fee charged to any student who chooses to use Make Up Day or Path B.
Advanced = $20 (40 minutes)
FEES:
We anticipate that the fees for participation in Certificate of Achievement 2019 will remain the same. However, the theory test fees from Musicians West have not been set for COA 2019. Any changes to those costs may affect participation fees for COA 2019. Participation Fees will be listed on the website http://www.treasurevalleymta.org as soon as we have them.
COA 2018 Fees were:
Young Beginner---$28
Prep-Level 2---$32
Level 3-Level 5---$36
Level 6-Level 8---$42
Level 9-Advance---$50
MENTORS:
It was suggested that we start a list of Certificate of Achievement Mentors. These would be teachers that would be willing to have their name listed on the website http://www.treasurevalleymta.org as a mentor for any of the new TVMTA members who have questions. If you would be willing to become a mentor for COA please respond to this email and we will add your name and email address to the website.
VOLUNTEERS:
It was suggested that we look into using volunteer hours from local High School National Honor Society Students and also the BSU Collegiate Chapter Students to assist with volunteer hours at the Certificate of Achievement event. Teachers would still be required to provide ½ day volunteer slots based on the number of students they have registered, but we anticipate the number of volunteers they would need to provide would be reduced. Teachers will still be REQUIRED to fill a ½ day volunteer slot themselves to continue participating in COA. This event NEEDS teachers(not just other student/parent volunteers) to be able to continue running effectively. More information will be posted on the website http://www.treasurevalleymta.org as soon as we have that information available.
COA 2019:
The 2019 COA Committee is being finalized. As soon as we have those members contacted we will post them online. http://www.treasurevalleymta.org If you would like to be on the 2019 COA Committee please respond to this email. We would love to have you participate as a committee member.
We have tentative dates selected for COA 2019. As soon as those dates have been finalized they will be posted online. http://www.treasurevalleymta.org
It was decided that the 2019 COA Schedules need to be released sooner. To make this possible some of the other deadlines for registration, repertoire, & volunteers have also been moved to an earlier deadline for COA 2019. Those dates will be posted on the website as soon as they have been determined. http://www.treasurevalleymta.org
Thank you for your patience while we make these changes. We are looking forward to another great Certificate of Achievement event in 2019.

PROGRAM CHOICE:
The decision was made to move completely over to the “Certificate of Achievement” (Musicians West-Idaho) program for the 2019 COA
- We will follow their program and their online syllabus. If you have the California Syllabus you may choose to use it for your own reference, but we will not be using it as a TVMTA group.
- Andrea Hansen will post all links to the various syllabus sections online under 2019 COA as they become available. http://www.treasurevalleymta.org
- Repertoire Requirements (1 trophy point earned if average of repertoire scores is 6 or above)
- ~Young Beginner: One or two pieces by memory, 12 measures minimum, different composers, no arrangements, folk songs or hymns, no “required” list.
- ~Preparatory through Level 2: Two pieces by memory, different composers, one piece from suggested list.
- ~Level 3 through Level 5: Three pieces, at least two by memory, different composers, different time periods. One piece from suggested list.
- ~Level 6 through Level 10: Four pieces, at least two by memory, different composers, different time periods. One piece from suggested list.
- One of the pieces must come from the “Suggested Repertoire List”. This has some specific pieces, but also includes many anthologies. Suggestions start at Preparatory Level. http://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/86a25e_ccd30a1d82f44beaa56193420035f5c8.pdf
- Time periods….This section is still under discussion for composer classification & time periods. More information will be posted as soon as we have it.
- Repertoire length…Each level the student is registered for has a set number of minutes allowed for the judge to hear the student. All repertoire selected must be at the registered level or above. Repertoire cannot exceed the time limit set for each level. Judges will end the evaluation after the allotted time.
- Young Beginner-Level 2 Repertoire Max Length: 5 minutes
- Level 3-Level 5 Repertoire Max Length: 10 minutes

- This link will give you the 2018 technique requirements. These are the requirements we will be using for COA 2019. DO NOT USE THE CALIFORNIA SYLLABUS! These are the requirements for COA 2019.
- Level 10 (Advanced Level)—It was decided that students will be required to play an Etude instead of the technique listed for Level 10.
- The Level 10 Etude must be approved by the COA 2019 Committee. Please send your Etude selection to COA Chair Emily Hanks emilyhank@yahoo.com to have it approved BEFORE your student begins working on the piece. A decision will be made by the COA Committee in less than 1 week.
- Theory Requirements (1 trophy point earned if theory/ear training score is 70% or higher)
- We are working with Musicians West to get a list of guidelines for what the theory requirements for each level will be. In the past students have been preparing for the theory tests using the Keith Snell Fundamentals of Theory books for each level (except for the Young Beginners). We will continue to use that as the guideline unless we hear something different from Musicians West. Young Beginner Requirements will include…identifying line & space notes, identifying high notes and low notes on a staff, steps & skips, the music alphabet, drawing notes including quarter, half, whole, dotted half, matching music symbols such as dynamics, tempo, bass clef, treble clef, staff, etc.
- You can purchase past tests to use as practice tests at the following link… http://musicianswestregister.com You will need to create a new account if you haven’t created one previously. Click on “Online Store” to purchase past tests.
- The theory test will include an Aural Skills portion. Here is the link to the Aural Skills syllabus… http://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/86a25e_f92ae0d79d3e4cb7a6623ab3526f5f01.pdf
- Examples of the Aural Skills Test are here… http://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/86a25e_64ce5ad040c3403b9614397e0c4091f1.pdf
- We realize that there have been some editing mistakes on the theory tests from Musicians West. We have compiled a list of mistakes from this year. Those will be sent to Musicians West to help with improvements in the future. Each year the editing mistakes have been less and less as we have submitted errors to them. We will continue to work with Musicians West in the future to continue to improve the quality of the theory tests.
- Sight Reading Requirements (1 trophy point earned if score is 6 or above)
- Sight reading will be required on ALL levels including the Young Beginner level starting COA 2019.
- Trophies will be given at 12 points, 24 points, 36 points, and a medal will be given for the Advanced/Level 10
- If you have any questions about the requirements for the Certificate of Achievement Program for 2019 please contact Emily Hanks emilyhanks@yahoo.com
