Dear teachers,
The schedule for students for Certificate of Achievement, April 10 at Idaho Music Academy is finished and available. Instructors may access their students’ schedules on the TVMTA website.
· Log into the TVMTA Registration Website, click 2021 Student Schedule, and print their studio schedules.
· Double check that ALL of your students that are performing are listed on the schedule AND that their level is correct.
· ALL students were assigned a judging "time"...whether they are live in person, Zoom, or recorded.
· We have 2 off-site judges (Robyn Wells-McDonnell & Bronwen Godfrey) that will be doing up to Level 7 videos and Zoom adjudications and that "times" were still scheduled for these students. If the judge listed on your student schedules says Wells-McDonnell & Godfrey then your student will be a recorded video or a Zoom link. Links for the Zoom adjudications will be sent to the teachers to forward to your students at a later date.
· If you can't remember what your student requested....log into your teacher account click on "Add or Edit Registrations" under Certificate of Achievement. Their request is listed in the right hand column.
· The remaining judges will be at Idaho Music Academy. Level 8-Advanced students....were still assigned an "adjudication time" even if they are recorded video or Zoom. Links for the Zoom adjudications will be sent to the teachers to forward to your students at a later date.
· Teachers will be proctoring the theory test and ear training test on their own during the week of April 5-10th. Teachers will grade the tests and submit the scores to Andrea Hansen via email (ahpianostudio@cableone.net) before 5pm on April 10th.
· We will send links of the digital copies of the tests and audio tracks as soon as they are available to us.
· Volunteer assignments will be available to sign up for on the website soon.

Dear teachers:
I hear some complaints about a scam email coming from me asking for some kind of financial assistance. They do not come from my email address. Someone has pulled my name from TVMTA Website because I am a president and uses my name and a different email address. I have no control over this. It happened with Kristie Rue and Monica Hughes when they were presidents of TVMTA. I do still receive these scams emails from "them". Again, there is no way for me to stop this from happening. So, please, ignore and delete these scams.
Thank you,

Hello Fellow Piano Teachers!
The Sonatina Committee is hard at work preparing our repertoire for this fall. We will send you information when we are done!
I wanted to share a BBC news item I heard today about a virtual concert tonight, premiering a newly discovered Allegro in D by Mozart! I heard a snippet of it and it is delightful and charming! They will be publishing the score after the concert. (perhaps we will find a place for the little gem on our sonatina list?...if it works) Here is a link to the fascinating history of the 1.5 minute piece. I think you would love reading it!
As always, we welcome any members who want to join our little group! We have lots of fun!
Enjoy!

Repertoire for Certificate of Achievement 2021 ---This is the same as last year.
2-4 pieces of repertoire is required based on the student's level. Teachers will select a repertoire program based on varying styles and techniques. Different composers must be selected. You may use the "Suggested Repertoire List" list on Musicians West as a guideline for leveling, but you DO NOT have to select a piece that is on this list. ALL songs selected for each student must be 'at or above' the respective levels represented in this list. Each level will still have a set time limit with the judges and students will be asked to stop playing if they go longer than the allotted time.
All requirements and information are listed here…. COA Requirements
Participation Options:
Students will have 3 options this year for participation.
Option 1: Video Recording of sight reading, technique, & repertoire. Teachers will proctor and grade the theory and ear training tests and submit the scores.
Option 2: Live In Person with a judge at the Idaho Music Academy for sight reading, technique, & repertoire. Teachers will proctor and grade the theory and ear training tests and submit the scores.
Option 3: Live Video Feed (Zoom/Facetime) with a judge for sight reading, technique, and repertoire. Teachers will proctor and grade the theory and ear training tests and submit the scores.
Teachers are required to proctor the theory and ear training test. This can be done via Zoom/Facetime or live in person at the teacher's studio. The digital copies of the test and ear training examples will be made available to the teachers to print and/or download for use.
ALL tests must be completed, scored and submitted between Monday April 5, 2021 and Saturday April 10, 2021 at 5pm. Email scores with the student's name to Andrea Hansen, NCTM ahpianostudio@cableone.net
Things to Remember:
We look forward to having you participate with us this year!

Dear Teachers,
Happy New Year to you and your families!
On Sunday, March 7th, at 4:00pm Dr. Barton Moreau is going to give a presentation and a Master class on zoom, "Haydn in Plain Sight." Therefore, if your students are currently working on Haydn sonatas or concertos, please sign them up for the Master class.
As you know, a Master class is a short lesson-demonstration. Therefore, a composition does not have to be fully memorized and played in a final performance tempo. As long as the students can play their pieces in a medium tempo without making numerous mistakes, the Master class will be promising and interesting to watch.
Dr. Moreau is a nice, kind, and understanding teacher. Therefore, your students will feel safe performing for him on zoom. We, Treasure Valley teachers, are also nice, kind, and understanding. We will do everything possible to make the students feel welcomed. We will encourage them with our smiles and applause. We will create a safe and pleasant atmosphere for learning.
If you are interested in signing your students for the Master class, please contact Dr. Moreau directly at bartonmoreau@boisestate.edu.
We will be looking forward to Dr. Moreau's wonderful suggestions on interpretation of Haydn's charming compositions.

Dear Teachers:
Please read the following guidelines for Sonatina Competition student recordings which should be uploaded and linked by November 9th. For any questions, please email or text me.
Differences in instruments and recordings: Because of coronavirus, many students may want to play their home instruments, digital or acoustic, upright or grand pianos. Others may want to record on a grand at another location such as their piano teacher's residence, Welch Music, Idaho Music Academy or Dunkley Music, using their own camera or the recording equipment provided.
For students who would like the opportunity to record on a grand piano, Luann Fife has offered to schedule students to record at Idaho Music Academy (with their own camera) for a small fee. Luann should be contacted via email to schedule appointments.
Because there will be differences in the quality of the instruments and recordings, judges will be instructed to do their best to judge the performances, without bias regarding the type of instrument, if at all possible. (Of course, there will be differences in the quality of the instruments and recordings, which cannot be helped.)
Video content: Student recordings should be a full body video, showing the student's head, body, and hands. Feet should be shown as well, if possible. Students should announce their first name, student number and piece and show their original music at the beginning of the recording, before playing. Teachers may find student numbers under "My Students" on the TVMTA website. Printouts of copyrighted music purchased on the internet and public domain music should have the site from which they were printed and the date of purchase (if applicable) hand printed on the music. There should be nothing identifying the teacher in the video or video description.
Uploading and Linking Videos: Students/parents will upload student videos to YouTube in unlisted mode. Teachers will add links to the video recordings by editing their student registrations on the TVMTA registration page.
Students/parents must upload student video recordings to YouTube, and links to the student recordings must be added by teachers to student registrations by November 9th. Teachers may not upload student videos to YouTube themselves. They must have the student or parent to do, and the student or parent may not mention the teacher’s name anywhere in the video itself or in the video description.
Adjudication will occur on November 14th, with final results to be completed, posted and winners notified within a few days.
Thank you so much for participating in Sonatina Competition 2020!
