2020 Sonatina EMAILS/Letters:
10-22-2020
Dear Teachers:
Please read the following guidelines for Sonatina Competition student recordings which should be uploaded and linked by November 9th. For any questions, please email or text me.
Differences in instruments and recordings: Because of coronavirus, many students may want to play their home instruments, digital or acoustic, upright or grand pianos. Others may want to record on a grand at another location such as their piano teacher's residence, Welch Music, Idaho Music Academy or Dunkley Music, using their own camera or the recording equipment provided.
For students who would like the opportunity to record on a grand piano, Luann Fife has offered to schedule students to record at Idaho Music Academy (with their own camera) for a small fee. Luann should be contacted via email to schedule appointments.
Because there will be differences in the quality of the instruments and recordings, judges will be instructed to do their best to judge the performances, without bias regarding the type of instrument, if at all possible. (Of course, there will be differences in the quality of the instruments and recordings, which cannot be helped.)
Video content: Student recordings should be a full body video, showing the student's head, body, and hands. Feet should be shown as well, if possible. Students should announce their first name, student number and piece and show their original music at the beginning of the recording, before playing. Teachers may find student numbers under "My Students" on the TVMTA website. Printouts of copyrighted music purchased on the internet and public domain music should have the site from which they were printed and the date of purchase (if applicable) hand printed on the music. There should be nothing identifying the teacher in the video or video description.
Uploading and Linking Videos: Students/parents will upload student videos to YouTube in unlisted mode. Teachers will add links to the video recordings by editing their student registrations on the TVMTA registration page.
Students/parents must upload student video recordings to YouTube, and links to the student recordings must be added by teachers to student registrations by November 9th. Teachers may not upload student videos to YouTube themselves. They must have the student or parent to do, and the student or parent may not mention the teacher’s name anywhere in the video itself or in the video description.
Adjudication will occur on November 14th, with final results to be completed, posted and winners notified within a few days.
Thank you so much for participating in Sonatina Competition 2020!
